Along with all the good times with mates, barbecues, sunshine and road-tripping, the New Year period is also the time when we often look back on how the last year went for us and set goals for what we want to do in the next year.

New Year's resolutions can be goals like getting better marks at school, saving enough to buy a car or joining new sports or social clubs. We all have different things that are of most importance to us personally.

Whilst it can be pretty easy to come up with some New Year's resolutions, it is way harder to actually achieve the goals we set ourseleves!

Take a look at these handy tips, which will help you to achieve those goals you have set for 2012.

Good luck!

If you're like us, you may have eaten a bit too much sugar these holidays. That's what holidays are about?!?

But is it so out of control, you need to be warned in the same way they show smokers pictures of dirty gross lungs?

Thats what some Medical Association experts are thinking- obesity is out of control, and shock tactics are needed. New York has already started with stomach-churning ads depicting people drinking body fat or shovelling down sugar sachets. The hope is they make burgers and soft drinks less tempting. Why? because just one sugary soft drink a day over a year could make a person up to five kgs heavier and increase the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

This guy (Dr Kausman) disagrees- ''People already feel judged and shamed and if we pour more of that on top of then it's just going to make the situation worse'.' The full articles here.

Think back just over three weeks to one of N.Z's great sporting moments - beating South Africa at the cricket World Cup.

Jacob Oram was named man of the match with his 4 wickets, and Jamie How caught the final catch. Both local boys. Palmy represent!

So that got me asking myself - I wonder who else has come from Palmy and gone on to do cool stuff, become famous, get rich and make us proud?

And the answer to my question was, well, heaps of people. It seems Palmy is the old hang out for many famous Kiws. Judy Bailey, Clark Gayford, Shane Cortese, Fred Dagg and heaps more.
