On our way!On our way!

Things went quiet for a bit whilst we tendered for a builder, but now it's all systems go!

Walk past the corner of Coleman Place/George St you'll see a hive of activity going on in the Youth Space.  Colspec Construction Ltd are doing the building work and things are really starting to take shape.

And have you checked out the new 'bikerakks' ?  Yes, they look like street sculptures, but don't let that stop you chaining your bike to them!  Thanks to PNCC ( esp. Sandi Morris) for making this happen.

Workshops: We've held 3 workshops to learn from the expertise of some existing organisations. Topics included keeping the Youth Space and young people safe (inside and outside), running activities plus how the facility should be managed. We'll be installing new cameras inside and outside the building to keep everyone safe.

Activities: Some local groups have told us they want to use the Youth Space. This is exciting news, and highlights the many ways that the Youth Space can be used.  Individuals have also contacted us about volunteering. If you're interested in either, please let us know.

Fund Raising and Support: We've put a lot of effort into fund raising. We've received some really generous offers from local companies, so thanks to Speedy Signs, Warehouse Stationery, The Warehouse, Mitre 10 Mega, Autex, Rangitikei Flooring and Steelfort.

Staffing: We're currently recruiting a Youth Space Manager.  We received over 40 applications and there were some real gems in there. Hopefully we'll be able to introduce you to the successful applicant pretty soon.

Opening Date: This has been moved towards the end of June because of clashes with other big council projects. This means extra time to create an exciting launch event plus some great activities for the Winter months.

Next Steps: We really want your input into how the Youth Space looks and feels. We'll be running a competition to name the Youth Space - as this is only a working title. It'll be promoted in the local media – so keep an eye out.  We'll also be organising art projects inside and outside the building, so if you're a young person and you're interested in participating, just let us know.....

More news again soon.
